Statistics for Us Normal People

by chelseajin

I’m reading an article for my Clinical Decision Making class, and I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a geeky article more. It’s long, but well-written basic primer on statistics applied to medical claims (ie: Asians are 5x more likely to die from breast cancer than Whites).

It’s not the most enjoyable leisurely activity, but I promise you, you will be all that more aware and skeptical when it comes to listening to health-related news. Basically– the information journalists give is garbage.

Since I believe information should be free, I have 2 of the documents from my class linked:

Longer read “Helping Doctors and Patients make Sense of Health Statistics” by Gerd Gigerenzer, et al.

Shorter Read “How to Read a Paper” by Trisha Greenlaugh
